Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant Expansion, Iceland
About the project
Rafal played a key role in the installation of the new SVA7 unit at the Svartsengi geothermal power plant in Iceland — delivering critical electrical infrastructure for one of the country’s largest energy projects.
The project includes a 55 MW turbine installation – the largest of its kind in Iceland – along with major upgrades to the site’s electrical and hot water systems.
Rafal was one of three main contractors involved, responsible for key elements of the electrical installation.
Despite challenging conditions during construction, including multiple volcanic eruptions in the area, the project was completed according to schedule.
Scope of work includes
- Installation of a 55 MW turbine system
- Energization of a 132 kV substation
- Construction and integration of cooling infrastructure
- Design, assembly, and installation of electrical panels
- Installation of high voltage and power distribution systems
